When we want sea air without a proper hike, we go for one of these easy coastal walks in Adelaide. All three are sealed, mostly flat and about two kilometres or less each way, so you can do them in sneakers, push a pram, or stop halfway for a swim or a coffee.
Brighton Jetty to Seacliff
- Area: Brighton and Seacliff, Holdfast Bay
- Cost: Free
- Time needed: about 26 minutes one way (2.1 km)
- Best time: Late afternoon into sunset
- Official link: City of Holdfast Bay – Glenelg to Seacliff Coastal Walk
This is the flat southern end of the 7 km Glenelg to Seacliff Coastal Walk, running along the Esplanade from Brighton Jetty to the Seacliff Surf Life Saving Club. You pass swimming beaches and two beachfront reserves with playgrounds, and the whole path is wheelchair accessible.
You can park along the Esplanade the whole way. There’s also a car park at the Seacliff surf club, but it fills fast on warm weekends. Trains stop at Brighton, Seacliff and Marino stations, so it’s easy to walk one way and ride back. Finish with a short hop south to Kingston Park, where the clifftop lookout has the Tjilbruke sculpture, picnic tables, toilets and barbecues. The spring below the cliff is a sacred Kaurna site, so take it in from the lookout.
Minda Coast Park, Somerton Park to Brighton
- Area: Somerton Park to Brighton
- Cost: Free
- Time needed: about 21 minutes one way (1.7 km)
- Best time: Morning
- Official link: City of Holdfast Bay – Glenelg to Seacliff Coastal Walk
The stretch just north of Brighton Jetty, and our pick for a slow morning. From the Somerton Surf Life Saving Club, a 500-metre boardwalk winds through the Minda Dunes, one of only two natural sand dunes left on the metropolitan coast and an important place for the Kaurna people. There are seats, lookouts and a picnic area along the way. The southern part of the boardwalk has a bit of a rise, but nothing you’d call a hill.
Join it with the Brighton to Seacliff section and you’ve got about four kilometres of flat coast in one go.
Witton Bluff Base Trail, Port Noarlunga to Christies Beach

- Area: Port Noarlunga and Christies Beach
- Cost: Free
- Time needed: 1.1 km each way; allow 30–45 minutes return
- Best time: Morning or late afternoon
- Official link: McLaren Vale & Fleurieu Coast – Witton Bluff Base Trail
The newest of the three, fully opened in August 2025. It starts with a 420-metre boardwalk from Port Noarlunga around the base of the bluff, then a sealed path takes you on to Christies Beach. It’s three metres wide, level, fenced and solar-lit, so it works for wheelchairs, prams and bikes as well as walkers.
There’s parking at both ends, and cafés too. Start at the Port Noarlunga end and you can add a wander out on the jetty.
Pairs with: a sunset. Sellicks Beach, further down the coast, is one of our free sunset spots around Adelaide. If you’d rather walk in the Hills, try our easy Adelaide walks around three lakes.
